I’m really excited to provide you guys with this one. Brampton/ Hamilton native Mubarik “Emay” Adams has been riding a wave of indie hip-hop hype for the past few years, slowly but surely building up a steady fanbase and surrounding himself with a bevy of talented up and comers (Star Slinger anyone?). But that’s not all that makes me excited about this one. Looking back about 3 to 4 years Emay belonged to a little known group named the Oneders, a group yours truly also belonged to along with a few others. While the rest of the group took different paths Emay kept his nose to the ground and kept pushing forward and with the release of his first full length album Adam we get to see the fruition of a year’s worth of hard work. Produced, mixed and mastered by Emay himself we get to hear smooth indie samples layered over steady pounding drums and well orchestrated synths. This is a complete album if I’ve ever heard one. He gives you the hard hitting rhymes with songs like Negro,he gives you the slower self-reflective songs like Wasted Same and he gives you uplifting songs like She Calls and Takes me Back all without losing the clever lyricismthat almost defines Emay as an artist. This is all him, from the lines that make you rewind to the grainy distortion that gives the album an old school, indie feel.
